Political News
We do the political sex related news every week, and I am amazed each week how much material we are able to find. This week is no different. Lets start out with presidential candidate Mike Hucakbee, who was last week’s Whacko of the Week, but he saved his latest bit of stupidity for this week. Let me quote: “Sometimes we talk about why we're importing so many people in our workforce. It might be for the last 35 years, we have aborted more than a million people who would have been in our workforce had we not had the holocaust of liberalized abortion under a flawed Supreme Court ruling in 1973.” Yes, instead of immigrants, we could have real Americans picking our lettuce and cleaning our homes. If only we hadn’t aborted them and not let them be raised into the level of poverty where we would now be able to exploit them in low paying jobs.
In an other follow-up to a Whacko of the Week from our August 12th show, Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church of gay haters is in the news again. Maybe for the last time. They just lost a civil judgment against them for invasion of privacy and infliction of pain and suffering. The church, led by Phelps, picketed the military funeral of Albert Snyder’s son who was killed in Iraq. His son was not gay. The church claims that Americans killed in Iraq die because god has turned away from America because of its liberal attitudes towards homosexuality, so they picket the funerals of servicemen killed in Iraq. AT least, they did until laws prohibiting picketing at military funerals were enacted. The compensatory damages alone are $2.9 million, with $8 million in punitive damages, far more than the assets of the church, which is basically run out of Phelps home and primarily consists of family members. Phelps, a lawyer himself, was notorious for suing anyone who criticized him. Now the show is on the other foot
And another shamed Republican who won’t resign- Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona- who was being groomed to run for higher political office in California. This despite photos of him in Moscow being overly friendly with a young woman, and multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Even one of his closest friends, Joseph Cavallo, calls him a serial adulterer and an article in the Orange County Weekly recounts numerous allegations of his affairs and attempted affairs with married women. He talked at length about his religion and family values, which made it all okay. The just released lengthy 10 count indictment against him charges him with an impressive number of schemes to enrich himself as Sheriff, and if found guilty on all counts, he could go to jail for over 100 years. Also indicted- his wife, and his mistress. Its extended family values corruption. And of course, like Larry Craig but with far more serious charges, Corona claims he won’t quit and that he is completely innocent- he just has a very wide legal stance.
Washington Republican State representative Richard Curtis knows when its time to go, though. He resigned immediately after it was revealed that a man he met at an erotic video store was blackmailing him, threatening to reveal their sexual liason. Curtis claims that he is not gay, which he might not be since he has a wife and child and would more likely be classified as bisexual, and he says no sex was involved. He was just helping the self-proclaimed male prostitute out. Giving him a helping hand perhaps. Using his oral skills as a representative. The other man, Cody Castanga, claims that it wasn’t blackmail- Curtis reneged on a promise to pay $1000 for sex and that is the only reason he took Curtis’ wallet- to force him to pay up. SO, is it safe to say that probably everyone here is lying? Of course, Curtis voted against bills granting civil rights protections to gays and lesbians, and against a bill that created domestic partnerships for same-sex couples. Because he’s not gay. He just sometimes fucks that way.
Our award for worst abstinence metaphor goes to Ultra teen Choice, an organization promoting abstinence through the following, quoted from their site: “Human sexuality can be compared to a diamond. When you have a very valuable diamond, you will not just display it for anyone to touch or do anything with it that they want to. Your sexuality, and specifically, the parts of your body that are unique to you as a man or a woman, including the breasts of a woman, are those "diamonds". When we think of it that way, we can see how wrong the current trend of ever more debased public sexual expression is.“ This was written by Richard Urban, who apparently does not get out much. If you have a set of big diamonds, you want people to see them. A lot of women with little diamonds pay a lot of money to get much bigger diamonds, and not to hide them away. I know a lot of women who love flashing their diamonds. And diamonds are a bad choice for another reason- something over which a small group of people want to control the supply creating an artificial shortage that has lead to a lot of misery and suffering. Then again, maybe that part is on the money. The big federal obscenity trial in Phoenix has come to an end. It’s the typical; story. Find a really conservative town, and hold your federal trial there. Phoenix is one of the few cities to ban swing clubs. It is not a friendly town to strip clubs. In other words, it’s a good place to have a big obscenity trial with a guaranteed jury of conservatives. The big showcase trial just resulted in a verdict. It started out with multiple counts against several people and companies involving several adult DVDs. The final result- Five Star Video and Five Star Video Outlet were found guilty of interstate transportation of obscene materials and the interstate transportation of obscene material by common carrier, for shipping a single JM Productions title “Gag Factor 18” to an FBI agent in Virginia. There will be some fines, and the feds get to take control of the domain FiveStarDVD.com. That’s about it. Nobody goes to jail, which was the Feds real goal to send a message that they are serious about going after obscenity. The judge did not allow the jury to be told that similar items were already sold in Phoenix, and jurors polled afterwards said that had they known that, as they should have, they would not have convicted. Not much to show for a huge national case that probably cost millions. It’s a result only Islamic terrorists could love. It keeps the FBI spending time and resources on something other than worrying about them and possible terrorist attacks, and they don’t like porn any more than the obsessed bluenoses at the Justice Department. Genarlow Wilson went to prison, adult prison, as barely a man. The crime he was convicted of took place when he was 17, at a party, where he had voluntary oral sex with a 15 year old, and someone captured it on videotape. He got ten years in prison for aggravated child molestation. When he got out, he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and he could not even go home to his family, as he had an 8 year old sister at home, and as a sex offender, he would not be allowed near her. Ironically, if he had just had regular sex and not oral sex with the girl, even unprotected sex, the penalties in Georgia would have been a lot less. He would not have to register as a sex offender. But oral sex has long been considered especially heinous in Georgia. Until 1989, even a married couple could receive 20 years in prison for the offense. And in Georgia, it did not help being black, as white defendants under similar circumstances received lighter sentences. They have a long history of color coded justice- the lighter you are, the lighter the sentence. This week, the Georgia State Supreme Court ruled that Wilson's sentence was cruel and unusual, and he was released. He will not be retried. But even now under the law in Georgia, which was changed after his conviction and largely because of the negative reaction to it, if he were tried today, he could still get a year in prison. Young people should not go to jail for having consensual sex with their peers. Ever. The lights flickered on briefly in Georgia. But they are still pretty dim.
You’ll find few people opposed to anti-child pornography laws, for the simple reason that we realize that it involves the actual exploitation of children. But is the film Lolita child pornography? What about the film American Beauty? Those are the arguments now before the Supreme Court, which is hearing the challenge to the PROTECT act. Its intent is to make even stating that you have sexually explicit material relating to children a crime. I understand why law enforcement wants this tool, but I also understand that when prosecutors are given too much leeway when a law is loosely written, some will abuse it for political reasons. I’m fine with the intent of the law, I just want the court to make sure that intent is really explicit. This British mum is certainly never going to make mother of the year. She found out that her 13 year old daughter was having sex, so she had her head shaved bald and had her genitals pierced to make sex painful. And in a trial that would only make sense to an L.A. celebrity trial jury, the jurors found her not guilty of child abuse. The woman who did the piercing while her mom held her down got a year in jail. And they are looking for the mom’s boyfriend- he was apparently the one having sex with the girl. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) added more than two dozen earmarks for abstinence education to the “Labor and Health and Human Services appropriations measure that passed the panel in June.” His requests totalled more than $1 million. He is the only lawmaker to sponsor such a spending request abstinence education.
Entertainment
The notorious Long Island Lolita, Amy Fisher, will soon be out in a sex tape, to be released by Red Light Video, which has released tapes of Paris Hilton and other celebrities caught on tape. Personally, I don’t want to see a sex video of a woman who shot her boyfriend’s wife in the face. And I hope this isn’t the start of a trend, because I really don’t want to see a Dick Cheney sex tape. Speaking of Paris Hilton and sex tapes, she went off on a tirade when she discovered that copies of 1 Night in Paris, her sex tape, were being sold in an adult store in Toronto she happened to be in, as if somehow she has forgotten all about the tape being out there. She ripped up a poster and made threats using profanities, while wearing an oddly appropriate skeleton costume. The whole thing was captured on video surveillance cameras, and the owners of the store offered to sell the video to the highest bidder. The tentative title is 1 Afternoon with a spoiled talentless bitch. Actually, the high bidder was TMZ, where the video is now posted. And she has a new perfume out. Not a joke. Its called Can Can Paris Hilton. So now you can smell like Paris Hilton’s can. Like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian is famous for having a famous father and having appeared in a purloined sex tape. Which then helped her get her own reality television show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She learned well from her close friend Paris. But she is now doing something Paris turned down, by appearing nude in the December issue of Playboy. Accomplish nothing, be famous, get in Playboy. The new American success story for women. I liked it better when Playboy got actual celebrities and interesting women to pose nude, or even helped make interesting women famous. James Lipton, the oft-parodied pompous host of inside the actor’s studio, has recently admitted to an unexpected earlier career. He was a pimp. When he lived in Paris, he procured clients for French prostitutes, and set up live sex shows. I’d love to see them on the actor’s studio talking about their careers in show business. Playboy TV premiered a new series called Canoga Park this Friday. Canoga Park is a community in the San Fernando Valley, the self-proclaimed porn capital of the world. While the entire valley has porn studios liberally sprinkled throughout, the community of Canoga Park has more than its fair share, including Anabolic, Diabolic, Elegant Angel, Mercenary Pictures and Zero Tolerance. The 15 episode series of shorts is a scripted comedy about the industry, chronicling the misadventures of a down-on-his-luck adult film mogul and his crew at the fictional American Insertions studio. It, of course, features guest appearances by dozens of people from the adult industry. And in whose getting naked now, the Spice Girls? Aren’t they over? Apparently they are getting paid a million a piece for a reunion tour. One in which, as Mel C revealed on the Graham Norton show, they will appear completely naked. It won’t be completely revealing- they’ll use props to hide behind. They’ll also do a pole-dancing strip-tease routine. I guess they feel that the 14 year old girls who were their fan base have now grown up a little. And turned into horny young men. What’s out and interesting in the world of porn? I came across a streaming video from jsexnetwork that certainly got my attention. A 500 person sex video. I can’t even imagine the logistics of trying to set something like that up. 250 guys and 250 girls in a big warehouse. Club Jenna released Erotic Aftershock, from writer/director DCypher. Its got CG effects, gun fights, and fight scenes- oh yeah, and hard core sex. Erotic Aftershock stars Roxy Jezel, Jesse Capelli and Brea Bennett, it follows a journalist played by Evan Stone and a down-and-out cop played Eric Masterson on a mission to take down a drug lord and a corrupt police chief who operate out of L.A.'s hottest strip club. I can’t believe that a porn film is following the contrived mainstream movie tactic of setting scenes in a strip club as an excuse to add nudity. A lot of porn films look like they were shot with no budget, but the premise of Summer Haze’s new gonzo film is that it really was. It’s called Not Another Low Budget Porn Movie, and it is from haze’s production company, New Porn Order. In the film, they borrow toys, barter for locations, and convince talent to appear in the movie by any means necessary. She convinces Ron Jeremy to appear by offering him a half eaten pizza. I’d offer Ron an entire pizza not to appear.
Interview The Egg and I AN interview between a lawyer and a fertilized egg
Egg: Thank you so much for coming Mr. Sojiny Sojiny: I am happy to be here. We at the Family Council for Traditional Values, feel very strongly about the rights of the preborn. E: That’s why I asked you to be here, to act as my lawyer. To guarantee my rights. S: And that is what I will do. Let me just get a few facts. You are an egg that was fertilized en virto… E: We don’t like to be called eggs. Its too humpty dumpty. We prefer the term pre-born unwombed. But unattached embryo is fine. S; Okay, a male pre-born unwombed… E: Uh, actually, all of us start out female. You have to actually be in a womb and then get a dose of the right hormone to become male. Otherwise, you stay female. But since I don’t have a mouth or vocal chords, you can only hear me talking in your imagination. And if it was a female voice, you wouldn’t listen. S: Good point. And you want us to sue to establish your rights as a full citizen of the Untied States. That is perfect, since that has long been our goal and we are looking for the perfect test case. E: Let me explain my position. In fertility clinics across the country, there are more than 400,000 abandoned embryos filling up their freezers just like this one. I apologize for the cold, by the way. State legislatures are looking at passing laws that award "custody" of these embryos to the state. Louisiana already has a law declaring that an embryo is a person from the moment of fertilization- the law states that as a juridical person, the in vitro fertilized human ovum shall be given an identification by the medical facility which entitles such ovum to sue or be sued.. I want you to sue on our behalf. S: That is exactly what we want to do. If an embryo can be established as a person outside of a woman’s body, we can put the lie to the notion that control of a woman’s body is paramount. This is a strategy that many right to life groups have been talking about as a way to finally eliminate Roe v Wade. We’ll use the equal protection law, and finally give embryos equal rights. E: Exactly, we want everyone to have equal rights, regardless of birth status, gender, race, sexual orientation… S: Actually, we are only really concerned about that first one, birth status. That is what I think we need to focus on.. E: And we don’t just want the right for every embryo to be born, we want to be born into a good family. And live a good life. And have guaranteed health care for every embryo, from pre-birth to childhood. Maybe some type of national health plan… S: Wait, wait, wait. I’m not really sure this is the case for us.
Whacko of the Week In a stunning display of poor judgment, presidential candidate Barack Obama invited gospel singer and anti-gay advocate Donnie McClurkin to perform during his South Carolina gospel tour. It combines two things that resonate with many black voters- gospel music, and a morbid fear of homosexuality. In South Carolina, 74 percent of black voters polled said homosexuality was somewhat or strongly unacceptable, an attitude that is directly responsible for the rising incidence of AIDS in the black community. There is a complete denial of homosexuality, even if you are having sex with another man, and the bizarre belief that using preventative methods would make the act gay. Sure, the idea of a gospel tour for a presidential candidate does not bode well for the notion of a separation of church and state, But choosing someone as controversial as Donnie McClurkin is even more troubling. Donnie is a grammy award winning gospel singer, and pastor. And a self-proclaimed ex-gay. He lived several years openly as a gay man before his conversion. He calls homosexuality a spiritual issue, one that you can be delivered from by the power of grace in his book, Eternal Victim, Eternal Victor He wrote: "The abnormal use of my sexuality continued until I came to realize that I was broken and that homosexuality was not God's intention... for my masculinity." And that would be fine if that was the picture he wanted to paint. A man who chose to no longer have sex with men for his own personal spiritual reasons. But the real story of Donnie McClurkin is much darker than that. I don’t know whether he is gay or not. Sexual orientation can be a difficult thing to pin down. What I do know is what he believes made him gay. He writes in his autobiography that he was raped by his uncle at 8, and then again by that uncle’s son at 13. As horrible as that it is, that is not what makes people gay, but it certainly can mess up your sexuality. For Donnie, though, he needed to have a reason for his feelings of gay attraction, and he extrapolates that to the gay community at large. Gays are predatory. They make more gays by raping children. This is the true hate filled darkness in Donnie’s heart that fuels his message about homosexuality- one clearly not tempered by tolerance, acceptance or understanding. He believes the fundamentalist rhetoric about a homosexual agenda to convert our children and the menace they present. He said on the 700 Club about homosexuality “The gloves are off, and if there’s going to be a war, there’s going to be a war.” This violent rhetoric is very disturbing, and it gets even more so, when he says “"I’m not in the mood to play with those who are trying to kill our children.“ He calls it a war, and the enemy, as they always are, are vilified. He opposes a school in New York for gay children. He believes that it actually puts the children more at risk than if they were attending a regular high school. "Everyone knows that everyone at the high school is homosexual. That makes for an easy target." He is seemingly unaware of what a huge target regular high schools are, filled with heterosexual girls. While we can understand some of what shaped Donnie’s attitudes, it still does not make them acceptable, and certainly should not have been acceptable to Obama. At the concert, he cried “Don’t call me a bigot or anti-gay when I have suffered the same feelings,” he cried. “God delivered me from homosexuality.” As he says, homosexuality is a curse. One you need to be saved from. Of course he is anti-gay, and the fact that he struggles with gay feelings does not seem to make him any more compassionate than any other anti-gay advocate. And at the concert, he said, “Don’t tell me that I stand up and say vile words against the gay community, because I don’t. I don’t speak against the homosexual.” But saying that homosexuals want to kill children, that they target children, that seems like something vile to me. If you call the way someone is a curse, then you are speaking out against them. He seems oblivious to this disconnect- but he also makes it a point at the concert to mention sin and judgment. That seemed a less than subtle dig at those homosexuals who don’t follow his lead and convert. But has he even become, as he claims, an ex-gay? There is no evidence that he has any attraction to women. He never even talks about that. So is his choice to be celibate? Is that the only choice for an ex-gay? He never talks about the specifics, or what being ex-gay really means, or what it costs you. And oddly, in the concert, he even told people not to listen to the rumors on the blogs. Those rumors, which he did not clarify, refer to accusations that he is not so ex-gay. A man named Rob provided reporter Clay Cane with detailed accounts of their 4 year affair after McClurkin claimed to be cured of homosexuality. I have some sympathy for the huge anti-gay pressure he felt in the black community, and the horrible things that have happened to him as a child, and the terrible dissonance he is going through. But ultimately, it has made him a little whacko.
Commentary- Halloween Fear Now that Halloween is just past, it seems an appropriate time to reflect back on what is admittedly my favorite holiday. Like Christmas and Easter, it started out as a pagan holiday. Celebrated on November 1st, it was usurped by the Christian church to become All Saints Day. The night before became all saints eve, or all hallows eve from middle english, and eventually, just Halloween. It was originally the ancient Celtic festival of sow-in. It marked the beginning of the long cold winter, and was associated with death. The beginning of winter certainly seems an appropriate time to think about death. The leaves fall off, the lawns turn brown, everything gets covered in snow. Of course, here in Los Angeles, we don’t get snow, and the flowers are always blooming, except when they’re on fire. The celts believed that it was a time when the dead could return to the earth, and a time for predictions of the future. As part of the celebration, they wore costumes. After they were conquered by the Romans, the celebration was combined with the Roman celebrant Feralia, where they commemorated the passing of the dead. Finally, the Pope declared it All Saints Day to commemorate Christian saints and martyrs, although the celebrations were similar. Halloween came late to the United States, not until the mid 19th century, and dressing in costumes did not begin until 1900. Traditonally, many of those costumes have been scary, but for many, the current trend for costumes is the scariest yet. The most popular Halloween costumes for adults and young adults, primarily women, are sexy outfits they would never normally wear. Sexed up versions of almost anything you can imagine are available. Last year when we went out to grab a late night bite to eat on Halloween, it was mostly young adults, and virtually every female costume was something sexy. At our Halloween party, the sexy costumes go even further, with few of them being appropriate for a late night bite in public. Writers and commentaries across the country decried the trend. And of course, the biggest outcry was against sexy costumes for kids. The one time I answered the door on Halloween, a pair of 15 year olds were dressed in what were definitely sexy costumes, and perhaps not age appropriate. I admit, I was a little shocked. I could see how it could disturb adults, as the thought of kids expressing any of their rapidly blooming sexuality is one of the most horrifying things of all. Perhaps because we know that we should not be thinking such thoughts about them. But they have sexual thoughts about themselves, regardless of how we feel. A couple of blocks away from our house they close down the street to cars and many of the houses decorate with very elaborate and animated themes. The streets are jammed with hundreds of trick or treaters, and it was a good opportunity to see what people were wearing. I saw little on the younger kids that I found all that shocking, cute more than sexy. Yes, the older teenagers often chose something on the sexy side, but what surprised me was the moms. Many of them dressed to go trick or treating with the kids, and the costumes they chose were overwhelmingly sexy. Cultural critics decry what they call the pornification of America. But historically, many ancient pagan festivals had a sexual element. They were often the one time that cultural restraints on sexuality were loosened up, and people did let themselves go sexually. It is interesting that Halloween is sliding more towards its more pagan roots. It is, for many, becoming a celebration of the sexuality that our culture forces us to keep supressed and hidden. The one time of year when you get let your inner sex kitten out. For me, it is just one more reason why Halloween is my favorite holiday. It had typically been a time when we face things we’d normally be afraid of. And here in America, sex is one of the things that scares us the most.

Our show goes on the road, and we are always looking for interesting venues
