Welcome to the show. In our sex in politics segment, we have a secretly recorded conversation with the fictitious representative of a health insurance company- and yes- all of the excuses he offers for denying coverage, insurance companies have actually used. We have a new chant for the abstinence crowd based on their old one, and the worst sex story headline ever. We also take a second look at the craziness that is South Carolina, thanks to Rachell Maddow, who we also defend in our Sexvestigation, that takes a closer look at one of the anti-abortion groups behind the fight against healthcare. And in our sex in entertainment segment, we look at gays, voyeurism, who is getting naked now, hemarphrodism, and why no one feels sorry about Hugh Hefner’s divorce. All this and more on the Jeff Booth show..
News
“Sorry to keep you waiting on the line for 3 ½ hours, Mrs. Blankhorne. Let’s see, you inquired about why your health insurance was canceled and why we will not be able to pay for your current pregnancy. The reason is two-fold. We examined your records and determined that as a teenager, you had a doctor’s visit and treatment for acne. We originally thought it was a pre-cancerous lesion- our mistake, but no point going over the past. It wasn’t reported to us, true or not, and so we have determined that you lied on your form- which is cause for automatic cancellation. Plus, there was a police report in 2003 with an incident of domestic violence. We, like many other companies in the seven states where it is still legal, consider domestic violence a pre-existing condition and another reason to cancel your insurance. I know this seems absurd that some states would ban us from doing this, which is why it is so important that we be allowed to offer insurance across state lines so we can locate in friendlier states where other states’ ridiculous restrictions on us would no longer apply. You see, Mrs. Blankhorne, we are working very hard every day to make insurance more cost effective- for us anyway. I know you won’t be able to get insurance for several months as other companies won’t cover you with your preexisting and current condition of pregnancy, but at least you live in one of the 14 states that require us to provide maternity care- assuming we actually were willing to provide it to you. But hopefully that won’t be a problem in the future, because its another thing that can be taken care of simply by allowing us to do business across state lines. And let’s face it, I personally agree with Anthem Blue Cross- whose spokesman defended not covering maternity care because it was your own fault you got pregnant. You could have simply decided not to. Oh, I realize this is your first child, but whatever you do, don’t get a C Section. That it is a pre-existing condition under the rules of a lot of companies, so you may be completely unable to get coverage or it will be extremely expensive. If you absolutely have to get a C Section and still want to have insurance in the future, many companies will accept proof that you were sterilized afterwards. That seems to me to be a good plan in general. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the fact that many women suffer hemorrhoids during and after pregnancy, and many insurance companies consider hemorrhoids a reason to deny coverage. Oh, and the intent to adopt is another reason to deny coverage. SO, good luck. And we do appreciate your business. Or did, rather. Oh, and don’t forget to contact your Congressman and tell them how much you oppose healthcare reform.”
South Carolina is near the top of states with the lowest vaccination rates for HPV to prevent cervical cancer, they are at the top of the teenage pregnancy rate, at the top of premature birth and lowest birthrate and highest infant mortality rate, and 20 percent have no health care. And a South Carolina insurance company was just ordered to pay $10 million to a teenager for revoking his policy when he contracted HIV. This state is an absolute mess, even besides the sex scandals plaguing so many of their politicians lately as we reported last week. So it should come as no surprise that they are represented by folks such as Lindsey Graham, Jim Demint, and Joe Wilson, some of the most anti-healthcare reform politicians in the country. Thanks Rachel Maddow for pointing this out. Sorry about those crazy American Life League people.
The only equal to South Carolina in appalling health care and outrageously high teen pregnancy rates is Mississippi. So it is not surprising that last May they threw a state sponsored abstinence only rally, a blatantly religious event where they told young people to abstain from sex until marriage and led them in the following chant- which seems perfect for a pop song- “Stop- don’t touch me there- This is my no-no square”. I can’t help but believe that most of these kids were chanting it ironically. And some of them were probably looking around wondering which of the girls shaved their no-no squares and which guys had the biggest non-no square. But for them, I guess its not the size of your no-no square that matters, but what you don’t do with it.
I assumed there had to be more to the chant to make it singable, so I added some more:
Stop, don’t touch me there, this is my no-no square Okay, just a little, but only through my underwear, I think its okay if you want to kiss me everywhere I think it doesn’t count if it just involves my derriere, Just don’t don’t don’t don’t don’t - touch my no-no square
The event was so specifically Christian that the ACLU just filed a lawsuit. In response, but certainly not in their defense, Mississippi Lt. Governor Phil Bryant stated, "I was so disappointed that the ACLU has decided that we don’t need to tell young women in the state of Mississippi about our faith; we don’t need to explain to them that abstinence, we believe, is related to our faithful Christianity beliefs." Bryant is making a fatal mistake, though. He refers to only telling women to be good Christians and abstain for sex. They don’t tell young men the same thing. SO young men are going to continue to have sex, but who with they have sex with if all the women are abstinent? The answer is pretty obvious. They are going to wind up having sex with each other. And once addicted to the gay lifestyle, as the abstinent women start looking for someone to marry, they’ll all be gay, so they’ll have no choice but to hook up with women. So, thanks, Lt. Governor Bryant, for being responsible for the queering of Mississippi.
This is one of the worst headlines ever- Aimee Louise Sword Raped Son She Gave Up for Adoption. What is sicker than raping your own son with a sword? Oh, her last name is Sword. Well, its still sick. In an interview on Fox News, a psychiatrist called it the most heinous crime in his career, worse than serial killers. What- it was not literally rape but seduction? Well, that’s statutory rape, since the boy was 15. Except they are not charging her with statutory rape, just third degree sexual misconduct- because allegedly the boy seduced her. And despite the reports that she tracked him down, they were actually put in touch through a social worker who thought it might help the mentally disturbed boy. Congratulations media, for reporting a story and getting virtually nothing right. And still, its sick. But then again, she’s really hot. A real M-MILF- my mom I’d Like to Fuck. Still sick- kinda. What? She denies the charges and the boy has a history of making threats to get his way, a criminal record, and is bipolar. It kind of sounds like the only thing the media got right in this story is her name.
Entertainment
Gays. The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Newlywed Game, whose 33 year mission has been to seek out and get laughs from new marriages with innuendo laden questions, and finally, to boldly go where no gay man has gone before. That’s right- the first gay married couple will appear on the Newlywed Game. Can you guess the couple? Correct, former Star Trek navigator George Takei and his legal husband Brad Altman. Although together for 22 years, they have only been married for a year, making it legal during the brief window of opportunity for gays in California. One thing for sure- we won’t get a repeat of the classic response Bob Eubanks got when he asked a man “Where is the most unusual place you’ve made whoopee.” In the press account I read they also quoted a man from an anti-gay organization, who called it a political stunt and part of the attempt to set the gay agenda. I know the media always tries to have a he said she said balance to every story, no matter how ridiculous, but really. This new version of the Newlywed Game is also mixing it up with interracial couples. So why no quote from a White Supremacist organization about the black agenda to take all the white women and create a mongrel race? Balance is balance.
Years ago we wound up in a clothing optional hotel, and we discovered that they also had a swingers dance that night. But it got even more interesting. If people wanted to be watched, they just left the curtains open on their sliding glass doors and people were welcome to look in. We could not resist the opportunity to wander around and be voyeuristic. That same opportunity is apparently now available to New Yorkers as well as visitors to the city. The floor to ceiling windows at the Standard Hotel in Manhattan make perfect viewing for people outside of the hotel to glimpse everything form people in the nude to couples having sex. From the elevated High Line Park, voyeurs get a perfect view into the 19 story hotel. Rather than be appalled by this development, the hotel has even encouraged new guests to just go ahead and have fun. The perfect meeting of exhibitionists and voyeurs. But exhibitionism has its price. In this case, it’s the up to $700 a night the hotel charges.
In who is getting naked now, its Ashley Green, the young star from Twilight. And the headlines kept referring to x-rated pictures that her lawyer was getting pulled from the sites that had posted. I beat the lawyer to get a look, and they are fairly tame nude shots. Nothing particularly scandalous. She has a lovely body, they are tasteful snapshots, and they are nothing to be ashamed of. But they were posted without her permission, so she has every right to have them taken down.
And not only was British singer Lily Allen was named Woman of the Year by the UK version of GQ, she also appears nude inside, with fully exposed and I must say lovely breasts. I am kind of hoping they don’t give Susan Boyle the nod for next year, though.
We were sitting in a restaurant watching the competition with the amazingly hot women runners. It was only later that we learned about the controversy surrounding Caster Semenya, who won gold in the 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics with an impressive time of 1:55.45 in the final. Some were claiming that she was really a man. SO genetic testing was ordered. It was not handled well, with them failing to tell her that the tests were to determine her gender, and numerous other controversies have arisen from this, include a complete failure to protect her privacy. The results are in, and have been made public, whether she wanted it or not. She is a woman and a man at the same time. A hermaphrodite. She has internal testes, but you could say that she was more female than male. Gender can get quite complicated. There will be a ruling in November as to whether she can compete as a woman in future events.
Hugh Hefner is getting divorced. You probably did not know he was still married, and that instead of the girls next door, they should have been called the adulterers next door. Hefner was cheating on his wife with the home wreckers, and his wife was the one who literally was ther girl next door, living in a Mansion next to the Playboy Mansion that Hefner purchased for her. They haven’t been together for 11 years so there was nothing to wreck. While progressive in many ways, Hefner still believes in monogamy- but only for the women sleeping with him (and frankly, I’m thinking a lot more sleeping than sex at this point). Throughout his life he insisted that women be faithful to him while he was anything but. And now he claims that he ended his relationship with Kimberly Conrad because she had cheated on him early in the marriage. I wonder if he can even remember how many women wound up forgiving him for his less than monogamous ways.
Sexvestigation
In this week’s Sexvestigation we look at unbelievably crazy anti-choice organization American Life League, and why their actions and rhetoric have implications far beyond their opposition to women’s choice.
A number of anti-abortion organizations have jumped into the Health Care debate. They oppose health care reform. Why? Well, its partially because their concern for life ends at the end of the birth canal. But it is also because health care reform does not put an end to abortion. They would willingly sacrifice the post-born who die for lack of health care simply because nothing in the bill gives them what they want- a ban on abortion. True, no version of the bill offers federal funding for abortion- but, at the same time, no version supersedes state laws that currently do allow public funding for abortion. The only thing they would accept is a provision that also tells states that they can not fund abortions.
The actual respect for life is pretty rare in the anti-choice movement. Take, for example, the Catholic based American Life League. At the 9-12 protest last week, a certain sign stood out. It was not hand scrawled on a cheap piece of cardboard, all of the words were spelled correctly, and it was professionally printed. There were a lot of them there, and they read “Bury Obamacare with Kennedy”. The signs were produced by the American Life League. Excellent respect for life, there.
Despite having life in their name, the truth is, their only concern is the creation of life. Once you are born, they could not care less about you. That seems cruel- but it makes sense. Born people have only one possible future- death. Since you are going to die anyway, why worry about you. No matter that you are born to parents who don’t want you, no matter how crippling or painful your birth defects, the important thing is to get you born. After that, you are on your own. Welcome to compassion-free conservativism. And intellect free conservatism.
But wait. It turns out it is not just birth they are concerned with. They skip over the actual life part, and then turn their attention back to people just before they die. The American Life League claims that, “the proposed health care reform would authorize the immediate killing of severely disabled people such as Terri Schiavo”. Terri Schiavo was a human vegetable. She had no thoughts, no life, no real existence. No one was home. Other than having human form, there was no human life as we recognize it in there. She was a shell, artificially kept alive. There was no hope that she would ever be more than that. Yet groups like the American Life League fought to force her to remain in that shell.
There is a disconnect here. But it makes sense. Since they don’t seem to care about life with dignity, it should not be surprising that they don’t care about death with dignity. They oppose people’s right to die, no matter their personal wishes, no matter the agony they are in, no matter the crippling costs of keeping people alive who don’t want to suffer anymore. For the American Life League, life is all about the suffering part.
But of course, their basic contention about the immediate killing of the severely disabled under the health plan is ludicrous, irrational, made up, and the ravings of the paranoid mind. Read the arguments on their site trying to turn end of life consultations into death panels and you quickly realize thee folks are seriously unhinged from reality. Personally- I feel we spend far too much money on people who have no expectation of future quality of life. They are done, but our medical skills exceed our wisdom at this point. That is why the so-called death panels, which have since been removed from the bills, were so important. Rather than killing people, it paid for people to be able to talk with their doctor about end of life decisions- whether they want to be artificially kept alive under certain circumstances. That is a choice that we should all be able to make, but it is a choice that groups like the American Life League oppose and would take away from us. I’ll grant them this- they are consistent with their anti-choice philosophy.
The American Life League is even crazier than you would think from what I have told you so far. Guess how they celebrated the funeral of the murdered abortion doctor George Tiller? By staging protests at Planned Parenthood facilities. Okay, to be fair, they claim they were actually doing it on the anniversary of the 1965 Supreme Court decision In 1965, in Griswold v. Connecticut, which gave people the right to use contraceptives in this country. Although that date is actually June 7th, not the June 6th of their event.
But wait. What does Griswold v. Connecticut have to do with abortion? Nothing, and they weren’t protesting abortion. These were protests against the only thing that can possibly reduce the need for abortion. Yup- they were out protesting birth control.
Let’s hear it in their own words: “Prayers were offered for the many uninformed patrons who come asking the staff of Planned Parenthood to provide chemicals, hormones, and sex-education as an answer to their problems with the natural consequences of abuse of sex." That’s right- married couples using birth control to limit the size of their families are abusing sex. The slogan for the protests- The Pill Kills. They believe that the birth control pill is a form of abortion- as are pretty much all forms of birth control. This is what happens when people who believe that the earth is 6,000 years old try and set public policy. They are dumber than the rocks they believe magically appeared just a few thousand years ago.
Unaware that most fertilized eggs don’t implant in the uterus, they are obsessed with assuring implantation, seemingly unaware of the real holocaust that is in the trillions when you factor in the fertilized eggs that women’s bodies naturally expel. They see preventing implantation as murder- so it is no wonder they have such disregard for women. They are the world’s worst mass murderers.
Here is what they tell women what will happen to them if they use birth control: “They will be mothers of dead babies. The hormones, chemicals and sharp intro-uterine devices will starve and kill in the secret warmth of their sterilized wombs.”
And of course, they don’t want anyone educated about sex, since they would become aware that the folks at the American Life League are scientifically illiterate. The only sex education they approve of completely avoids examining the subject of sex in any concrete, detailed or descriptive way in the classroom
Other crackpot notions that they advocate include that there is never a medical need for an abortion to protect the life of the mother, that contraception is a gateway drug to abortion, they insist that the only hope for the world is for everyone in every country to have large families, they claim “teens are not biologically programmed to have sex as much as they are indoctrinated to do so.”
They are also behind the Personhood proposed state amendments that would outlaw abortion and birth control, redefining a fertilized egg as a full human being with the right to their own attorney, and if they can not afford one or speak up on the matter, an attorney will be provided for them. Using abortion or birth control would legally be a homicide. They make this all inclusive. Pregnancy could not be terminated no matter how severely deformed the child might be. Pregnancy could not be terminated even if the pregnancy resulted from the rape of a child by a priest. Pregnancy could not be terminated in the event of an ectopic pregnancy.
And yes, they specifically reference this on their site. Here is their logic: “If you legally define “person” as “beginning at fertilization in the woman’s womb,” then in addition to those innocent human beings asexually reproduced [that I] just mentioned, that would leave out of personhood even those human beings resulting from fertilization but still in the woman’s fallopian tube (that is, fertilization does not take place in the woman’s womb or uterus, but rather in her fallopian tube); the new human being then must travel for about 5-6 days down the fallopian tube before he/she enters the woman’s womb). This would constitute a legal loophole that would allow the use of abortifacients, prenatal genetic diagnosis, even “embryo flushing” in order to obtain embryos for all manner of destructive research purposes.”
Okay, ignore the fact that they are confusing fertilization with implantation, since fertilization usually takes place in the fallopian tube- not the womb- which is where the fertilized ovum attaches itself to develop. So in order not to have a loophole, they are technically calling a fertilized ovum mistakenly attached to the fallopian tube a person. They don’t put any time limit on it. And this sort of thing, called an ectopic pregnancy, has a very good chance of killing the mother. And what will they do about the fifty percent of ectopic pregnancies where the body naturally flushes out the fertilized embryo? This is called a tubal abortion, and I am sure they would want to figure out a way to make that illegal as well.
You can buy the Kennedy Obama care sign on their web site, along with other interesting items for purchase. For example, they have a number of booklets: Infant Homicides through Contraception, Contraception and Abortion- the Deadly Connection, and Flawed Condoms. Or maybe you’d prefer a card with a prayer for President Obama’s conversion. Or get the brochure on Planned Parenthood, which says “Planned Parenthood sells sex, but merely as bait to steal souls — your children's souls. Learn more about this menace.” That’s right, like Satan, Planned Parenthood steal souls. And ironically, because of our poor health care system, Planned Parenthood offers the only reproductive health care for a lot of young women- and the American Life League would have them avoid even that. Better dead or sick than having your soul stolen, I guess. Oh, and don’t even think about helping others after you die. There is even a brochure to warn you of the dangers of organ donation-which leads to organ harvesting and killing of people who, just because they are brain dead, are still really alive.
Oh, they also call MSNBC news show host Rachel Maddow a pro-promiscuity zealot. This from anti-sex anti-rationality zealots who think all sex outside of procreation is immoral. If you added up the IQs of all of the American Life League member sit will still onky be a bout a tenth of Rachel Maddow’s I.Q.
Here is the real problem. The black and white, us versus them, the other side is evil and must be stopped at all costs type of protest has long been a tactic of the anti-choice crowd. It has lead to violence, criminal actions, and murder. That is a natural result of inciting people with this type of rhetoric. The scary part is that while this used to be a more isolated part of the fanatical anti-choice crowd, it is seeping into the rest of conservative right wing politics. That the anti-choice organizations are joining forces with the anti-health care reform groups is especially concerning because they are now adopting that same violence inciting rhetoric. In fact, with the claims that Obama is not the legitimate president, Obama is trying to kill old people, Obama is a socialist/communist/fascist intentionally working to destroy our nation, it looks like the right is adopting the strategies of the very worst of the anti-choice organizations. If you believe this rhetoric, virtually anything is justifiable. It is very dangerous, it is very crazy, and the results may very well be very violent.
